| Happy Tails | Karmella (Ayra Talbot)
On March 22, after a few phone calls and info exchange, Wags
foster mom Carol brought Karmella (known then as "Ayra Talbot") to
our house. We were quite sure we would accept her into our home but
our 6 year old dog, Harrison, had to test out her energy. From the
first moment they met in our backyard it was a match made in
heaven. They are inseparable.
Karmella has been with us for 2 months and is now 7 months
old. She has grown to be a a little bigger than Harrison but they
still insist on sharing the smallest beds and cuddling into the
smallest spaces together. She is sure to grow more.
During these 2 months we have seen the tom-girl as she enjoys
lying in the dirt, instigating a playful wrestling match with her
big brother and chewing things she shouldn't. Then we've seen her
gentle side as she carefully nursed a wound on Harrison's ear,
licks his face as he sleeps and allows our nephews to play with her
in their own "special" way as they learn about dogs. She has her
basic commands down and has been house broken.
Her happiness is contagious as she hops along on a walk with
her tongue flapping around. She greets people with a polite wiggle,
never jumps but sometimes knocks herself over when she loses her
balance wiggling during a greeting. She came to us as a new amputee
- only having had 1 of her front legs removed a month prior. Her
stamina is compromised a tad so there are no long runs as we ride
bikes but she loves walks and running around the yard with her many
dog friends.
On most days we have as many as 9 other dogs visit as part of
work we do with a a local trainer who is starting his business. Our
yard is perfect for it. When they are sprinting around the
yard she can found somewhere in the middle - not the fastest, not
the slowest - but certainly the happiest with an open mouth, tongue
flapping and the occasional tumble when she forgets she only has 3
legs.
She has fit into our home perfectly. Thank you to Wags for
bringing her to us and taking such good care her for the very short
time she was waiting to be rescued.
All the best,
Jason & Lynne
